ABOUT
Hi, I’m Karol Makula (he/him/his)! For over 10 years, I’ve been capturing the magic of weddings, turning once in a lifetime moments into timeless memories. Based in Dalkeith, on the outskirts of the beautiful city of Edinburgh, Scotland, I’m surrounded by incredible scenery that constantly inspires my work.
When I’m not behind the camera, I’m a proud husband, a dad to two wonderful kids - a boy and a girl and the human to our beloved cat, who was our first “baby.” My family is my world, and we love exploring new places together. Traveling across the globe has given me a deep appreciation for the diversity of love stories, which I bring into my photography.
I’m passionate about capturing the authentic emotions and details that make your wedding day unique. Whether it’s the joyful tears, shared laughter, or quiet moments in between, I aim to tell your story with warmth and artistry. Using top-tier Nikon equipment, I ensure every image is as stunning and vibrant as your memories deserve to be.

What I really care about is listening to you. I want to know what you envision for your wedding day. That’s why I always encourage couples to meet with me and have an initial engagement session. It’s a chance to get to know each other, discuss the shots you love, and plan how to make the most of your venue - like working with the light and scenery to create stunning photos.
Rest assured, you’ll be working directly with me throughout the entire process. This is my business and my passion. No one else will be involved, ensuring your vision is fully understood and delivered.
As you’d expect, I’m fully registered and insured. Based in Edinburgh, I work frequently in Glasgow, across Scotland, and even beyond. My work has won awards and been featured in wedding magazines and blogs, which is always exciting! But what truly matters to me is being part of so many couples’ unique and beautiful stories.

We booked Karol to photograph our wedding in July this year. Karol was incredibly helpful from the start, he was happy to answer any questions we had and arranged a helpful call to discuss plans for the day a few weeks before our wedding. On the day Karol was amazing, we are both a bit camera shy and he made us feel completely at ease. He is a genuine, lovely person and made everyone feel very comfortable. Karol sent us preview photos just a couple of days after our wedding which was amazing, and he provided the rest of our photos in great time. Our photos are absolutely stunning, we couldn’t be happier. He captured everything perfectly and the photos are edited so beautifully. We were delighted that Karol was available to photograph our wedding having seen his amazing work from previous weddings. He made sure that we spoke with him to gain and understanding of what to expect on the day and timings etc. He asked us if there was anything in particular that we wanted such as family photographs and certain locations at the venue so that he could plan and tailor on the day. He took his time to make sure he captured our day to our specifications. On our wedding day, he made us feel so relaxed and comfortable, we forgot we were even being photographed! He captured the finer, subtle details such as jewellery and perfumes whilst we were getting ready and they images were curated beautifully. Karol’s professionalism and attention to detail was outstanding. He made sure he got round all the guests and now looking back at the photographs he really did capture the full day and all the special memories. During the reception and in the evening we were only away from our guests for a few minutes at a time to get our couple photos and ensured we enjoyed every moment. A couple of days after our wedding Karol sent us a sneak preview of about 25 edited photographs from the day whilst we waited for the rest to be edited. We have now received the full album and are beyond delighted with the results. The photographs are candid and truly captured the special moments through out the day. We could not of asked for anything better and these are the memories we will now cherish. Thank you so much again Karol and I could not recommend you enough!

We had no hesitation, within the first meeting that we knew we found who we wanted to be at our special day. Karol made us feel at ease through the whole process and we had a wonderful time during our pre-wedding photo shoot. From the moment we met Karol we instantly knew we had found the photographer for us. He made us both feel at ease from the first meeting so it was very easy to relax with him. He was very professional yet at the same time was not over the top. We were both uneasy in front of the camera and had an engagement shoot with Karol, this allowed us to relax more and get used to having him around. The photos from this shoot were beautiful which made us even more excited for the wedding photos. We were very happy with the photos of our big day and think you only need to look at his website to see that he captures some gorgeous shots. He got all of the big snaps that we needed, several beautiful portraits and family groups, but also captured several genuinely touching moments that we had remarked on during the day and were then surprised to see had actually been captured for posterity. A friend holding hands, a whisper at the right moment, a reassuring hug. Not big set pieces, but candid moments that capture are, I think, the mark of a really good photographer. Finally it is all packaged up beautifully in a keepsake usb stick, with excellent post production values. We were thrilled with the photo package we received and think it represented fantastic value.

Karol was absolutely outstanding! From the moment we met him we knew he was the photographer for us, he was so professional, friendly, approachable and made us feel completely at ease. When I first looked at his work I very wrongly assumed he was female, much to the humour of my then fiancé, who couldn’t contain his laughter when I phoned Karol and thought he was perhaps answering the phone for his wife. I knew straight away from looking at his work that he was the photographer for us; he has a beautiful, romantic and soft touch to his photography. He was quick in responding, friendly, warm- nothing was ever too much to ask. At one point in the church ceremony I actually whispered to ask my bridesmaids if they had seen him as I was convinced he hadn’t turned up! Of course he had and he captured our day incredibly. When we decided to get married we knew we wanted a small and intimate wedding but didn’t want to compromise on our wedding photos. I must have looked at over a hundred different photographers but couldn’t see any with a style that suited us. Then I found Karol. He sent me a link to some photos he had taken of a previous wedding he did. As soon I saw them I knew Karol was the one. Karol was the first and last photographer that we met with for our wedding as we knew straight away he was the one for us! We picked Karol as we liked his ‘candid’, not staged style and that’s exactly what we got. I don’t even remember seeing him during the ceremony (which is a good thing! As he still took the most amazing photographs). Most importantly I think though, Karol is a really lovely guy who was brilliant on the day and relaxed throughout. He knew where and when he wanted his shots already so the whole process went smoothly and very quickly, so he wasn’t keeping us from our guests too long. We saw Karol’s photos on a friend’s Facebook page and loved them, so we approached him to see if he was available for our date! He was! He planned a meeting pre wedding to have a look through his portfolio and to discuss what we would like before finalising the booking which was great as we were reassured that he was such a lovely and professional guy! He captured so many amazing moments from our day and apart from doing our couple shoot we barely noticed he was there. He was so lovely and checked we didn’t want anything else before leaving.
